What are Glimmers?

The theme for 2025 Children's Mental Heath Week is Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.

We think an important part of getting to know yourself is discovering what you like and what makes you feel happy! Have you heard of the term Glimmers? They are little pockets of joy that make you feel good. Once you know what yours are, you can consciously add more opportunities for joy to your week, boosting your overall mood and mental wellbeing.

This is as important for kids as it is for grown ups! And while we generally tend to know as parents/carers what makes them happy, they don't always consciously recognise it themselves. Understanding their likes (and dislikes) is an important part of developing their sense of self, embracing their individuality and learning to say yes or no to things that do or don't make them feel good.

We created a short activity you can work on together, which should hopefully open up some fun conversations about things that make you both happy, and how you might be able to create more opportunities for Glimmers every day!

Tips:

Don't worry if it sparks a conversation on what they don't like too, triggers and dislikes are just as important to identify! It could lead onto a discussion of how some could be avoided.

If your child is not a fan of writing (or are too young) - you could make it into a game instead using our chatterbox print out below!

When they have discovered some of their Glimmers, have a chat about whether its possible to create more opportunities for them during their week 😊
